These terms and conditions apply to the Pharos app (hereafter referred to as the "Application") for mobile devices, created by Los Simis (hereafter referred to as the "Team" or the "Service Provider") as a free service.
Los Simis is an independent team of three developers and designers based in Italy and Mexico, taking part in the UNESCO Global MIL Week Youth Hackathon. Where these terms refer to the Service Provider, they refer to the Team collectively, reachable at pharos26academy@gmail.com.
Pharos is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. or UNESCO; those names are used here only to describe the platform the Application runs on and the programme the Team takes part in.
Upon downloading or utilizing the Application, you are automatically agreeing to the following terms. It is strongly advised that you thoroughly read and understand these terms prior to using the Application.
Intellectual Property & Source Code
The source code of the Application and its curated catalog are published openly at github.com/christianostoni/Pharos, so that anyone can inspect how a learning path is produced. Your rights to use, modify or redistribute that code are the ones granted by the licence published with the repository, and nothing in these terms restricts them.
Outside that licence, all trademarks, copyrights, database rights and other intellectual property rights related to the Application — including the Pharos name and marks — remain the property of the Service Provider. Unauthorized use of our trademarks, or distribution of a modified build presented as the official Pharos app, is not permitted.
Changes to the Service
The Service Provider is dedicated to ensuring that the Application is as beneficial and efficient as possible. As such, they reserve the right to modify the Application or charge for their services at any time and for any reason. The Service Provider assures you that any charges for the Application or its services will be clearly communicated to you before they take effect.
Learning Content & No Guarantee of Outcomes
The Application generates personalized learning roadmaps that link to third-party learning resources (courses, documentation, videos). The Service Provider does not own, operate, or control these third-party resources and is not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, or pricing. Prices and availability of third-party resources may change at any time.
Learning paths are provided for informational and educational purposes only. They do not constitute professional career advice, and the Service Provider does not guarantee any particular learning outcome, qualification, or employment result from following a path.
Parts of each path are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence. While the Application is designed so that all links come from a curated, verified catalog, descriptive text may occasionally be imprecise. Use your own judgement when acting on it.
Your Device
The Application stores and processes personal data that you have provided (such as your name and progress) on your device itself, in order to provide the service. It is your responsibility to keep your phone and access to the Application secure. The Service Provider strongly advises against jailbreaking or rooting your phone, which is the process of removing software restrictions and limitations imposed by the official operating system of your device. Such actions could expose your phone to malware, viruses, or malicious programs, compromise your phone's security features, and may result in the Application not functioning correctly or at all.
Internet Connection & Charges
Some functions of the Application — in particular, generating a learning path — require an active internet connection. The connection can be Wi-Fi or provided by your mobile network provider. The Service Provider cannot take responsibility for the Application not working at full functionality if you don't have access to Wi-Fi and you don't have any of your data allowance left.
If you are using the Application outside of an area with Wi-Fi, the terms of your agreement with your mobile network provider still apply. You may be charged by your mobile provider for the cost of data, or other third-party charges. In using the Application, you accept responsibility for any such charges, including roaming data charges if you use the Application outside of your home territory (i.e. region or country) without disabling data roaming. If you are not the bill payer for the device on which you are using the Application, they assume that you have obtained permission from the bill payer.
Device Responsibility
The Service Provider cannot always take responsibility for the way you use the Application. For example, you need to ensure that your device stays charged — if it runs out of battery and you can't turn it on to use the service, the Service Provider cannot accept responsibility.
Limitation of Liability
While the Service Provider endeavours to keep the Application updated and correct at all times, they do rely on third parties to provide information so that it can be made available to you. The Service Provider accepts no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, that you experience as a result of relying wholly on the functionality of the Application.
Updates & Termination
The Service Provider may wish to update the Application at some point. The Application is currently available as per the requirements for the operating system (and for any additional systems they decide to extend the availability of the Application to) may change, and you will need to download the updates if you want to continue using the Application. The Service Provider does not guarantee that the Application will always be updated so that it is relevant to you and/or compatible with the particular operating system version installed on your device. However, you agree to always accept updates to the Application when offered to you.
The Service Provider may also wish to cease providing the Application and may terminate its use at any time without providing termination notice to you. Unless they tell you otherwise, upon any termination: (a) the rights and licenses granted to you in these terms will end; (b) you must cease using the Application, and (if necessary) delete it from your device.
Changes to These Terms and Conditions
The Service Provider may periodically update these Terms and Conditions. Therefore, you are advised to review this page regularly for any changes. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes by posting the new Terms and Conditions on this page.
